Out of the depths
Mar. 9th, 2007 11:01 amIt's supposed to be nearly 50*F today. A tantalizing breath of spring. I'm ready for it. I hope to re-start a garden this year; this may be the last year to get some of J's parent's excellent old-stock strawberries, so I guess it's time to stop messing around and have a real garden that I don't ignore.
I got a little too excited about the warm weather this morning and underdressed. Hey, it was 20. But mid-ride temp got down to 5. A 10* swing is common. 15* is a lot less common but it happens. Only my face suffered; I wore my gaiter pulled over my head rather than a balaclava, because I didn't want to wear the balaclava at 48* this afternoon. Shoulda packed both.
Another few weeks and the studded tires can come off, woo hoo! But as is, they're still 100% necessary in a few parts of the ride, unless I feel like getting off and walking up those hills. Cars wouldn't make it at all except for momentum. Solid ice hills.
