In the wake of the FBI audit and the Libby trial, I keep thinking, what does it say about us when so many US citizens believe that the president or vice president are really guilty of directing or at least being aware of and not stopping these actions, or in the case of Libby, that nearly everyone agrees that he's just a fall guy for his superiors, but that those higher-ups will never be held responsible?
Certainly there's precident for everyone right to the top being held responsible for misdeeds, but most people I talk to these days think there's no real chance that it'll happen with this administration. I think it's probably due to having had 6 years of yes-man congress, and congress is really the only real way of taking the executive to task. In the remaining few months, congress is too busy trying to make brownie points for the 08 election to really want to start shaking things up, because you can never be too sure which way things will fall out.
