Added to bike light review:
Aug. 26th, 2009 11:07 amI have ridden with the light twice now; on Monday I had it on low for 40 minutes, and left it plugged in but off (rear light glowing) all day, about 8 hours. On Wednesday I did a full dark 40 minute ride on high in the rain. I disconnected the battery and took it out to make sure it was dry. At lunch I put the battery back on and it immediately lit the rear light RED, meaning low battery.
This means either the rear light sucks a lot more power than I would have thought, or the batteries die quickly when sitting. I'm assuming the former. I'm going to try to build a rig for testing power drain in all modes to confirm.
EDIT: NEVER MIND. I think the controller just needs to have the battery cycled a few times to "learn" where the battery limits are. The instructions say something about this. I'm charging it now, I'll run it Thursday/Friday, kill it on Saturday, keep track of total runtime, then charge it and run it down again.
I also want to test runtime with the battery pack in the freezer at 0*F; yes, I do ride in the dark at 0*F, and I want to know what the runtime is then.
I will say that in general I'm super happy with this light. It's got a very smooth beam, it's just the right level of brightness, and the lens is large enough that a single drop of water on it doesn't distort the beam and leave crazy donuts all over like the Dinotte did (with its 1/2" lens).
