Windows 7 indifference
Oct. 24th, 2009 06:26 pmI'm undecided about Windows 7. Specifically, about whether I'm going to keep using it, or switch back to XP. There's nothing about it that I like better than XP, but there's also nothing about it that really bothers me all that much either, so I don't know if I want to put up with the lost day it would take to back up and move back to XP.
What I want out of an operating system is that it be as invisible to me as possible and let me run my apps. XP does that very well. Windows 7 is OK too, but they've done a few things to detract from that. The worst is Windows Explorer. It's been made so "friendly" that it no longer allows me to quickly navigate my system and I can't force it to have the look I want; no matter how often I try to force "all folders" to have detail view, for instance, it keeps flipping to icon view. Icon view is useless. I NEVER want it.
I think I probably will be installing XP again, I just don't know if it'll be today or next week.
Honestly, Windows 2000 is still fine for me, except it can't handle more than 2 CPUs, and some software I own requires at least XP.
