cold toes

It said 17*F outside the house this morning, but that thermometer is up against the house; it was 5*F at low point during the ride in, plus a noticeable headwind (plus my own 15 MPH). Mostly OK, but this knit face mask I picked up is only going to be good for layering, not solo use; had it been any colder I would have stopped and added a gaiter. Also I think it would be a good idea to look for some toe covers. I really don't want to spend $200 on Lake shoes, and I really don't like riding with either full neoprene booties or hunting boots, and really it's only my toes that get cold.

There are two adblock type extensions for Chrome, but they both load up all the ads and then modify their display aspects to hide them. This is far less than adequate. Both because it is irritating to have stuff pop up and then disappear, and also because it's using bandwidth to no purpose, and possibly people are getting charged for ad impressions that don't actually really happen.

From a little bit of reading, apparently this is due to the way that Chrome's extension architecture works. The extensions are not allowed to alter the data stream between the TCP/IP stack and the rendering engine, they can only modify stuff once it's on screen. Seems really limited, though I suppose it has good points from a security point of view.

Anyway, though Chrome does look really nice and has a great, thin look and renders fast and well, I think I'll stick with Firefox for now.
