Internet borked?
May. 3rd, 2011 02:25 pmIs it just me, or are there a HELL of a lot of websites that have been really slow over the last few days? There are normally fine sites that I just can't load at work today, some were slow yesterday. We have been seeing very slow performance at home. It's not our connection either, on the bandwidth graph off the router, it'll be putzing along at 100 kbps then I'll start an NNTP download from Newsguy which is throttled to 768, and the connection will immediately slam up to the throttle limit, stay there until the file is done, then drop back down. Same for YouTube; if someone is hitting YouTube, the connection will slam straight up to the 1000 kbps limit of our connection.
But many regular sites, including LiveJournal, load very slowly even though the connection is very underutilized. LJ could have been getting DDOS'd but it's more sites than just that.
EDIT: OK, at work anyway they've determined that there's a screwed up router at Global Crossing in Detroit. I suppose that could be affecting us at work too. They're gonna reset it tonight.

I need to remember reading this study and realize, yes, they are.
I can't believe that someone can grow up in a first world country and be that ignorant. You must have to actually work at it.
