That was nerve-wracking. I've got a balance on my Discover card of several thousand, it's a balance transfer from another card and due to various shenanigans, I'm paying 0% on it forever as long as I keep making minimum payments on it. I'd been doing it manually but I figured why not use their auto-pay?

Problem is that Discover has a really inflexible and scary autopay system. The payment doesn't post until the day AFTER the due date, but they promise that its EFFECTIVE date is the due date so it's OK. Also they don't show it as a pending payment, you just have to hope and trust that it's going to happen. And it doesn't happen until the month AFTER you sign up (sign up in mid-May, the first auto-payment doesn't happen until the next billing cycle, in JULY).

Anyway, I gritted my teeth and went through the due date, and it did push the payment the next day and the new statement shows it correct.

Discover is really ridiculous in so many ways. I also wish they'd learn how to format a proper financial statement. I sure wouldn't use them intentionally, they just had a good zero-interest balance transfer a few years ago when I needed it.

I was going to go over and delete my Facebook account, but then I realized that I have an organization linked to the account. 'Course, as far as I know, nobody pays any attention to the organization either so it probably wouldn't bother anyone if that one went away too, or I transferred it. I haven't been on FB for probably 2 months now anyway, so I guess it hardly matters if I delete the account or not.

To clear up a misconception, even though I've talked about FB's bad security in the past, at this point I really don't give a damn about their security. I don't avoid FB because of security or lack of it. I avoid it because honestly, it's just a huge pile of noise, and I'm not really talking about the things people post. There's so much crap and ads and games and junk poking me every time I go there that it just bothers me. Every time I start using FB I start getting emails and stupid notifications about things that I don't care about.

That and their bizarre decisions on what to show and in what order. Chronological, newest first please. Instead they seem to think that "blender" is the preferred sort order.

Hm, having second thoughts about which 3D printer. The MakerBot Thing-O-Matic is tempting with the ability to clear its own build surface and start the next thing unattended, but the RepRap looks about the same to put together, full kits are < $900 ($400 cheaper than the ToM) and it does 8x8x8 instead of 4x4x4 inch max build sizes.

I'm going to have to go to Maker Faire in a few weeks and compare first hand.

EDIT: after having watched a few videos on reprap building I'm kind of leaning towards doing a ground-up repstrap from wood. It'd be fun. But I have to decide whether I'm more interested in the journey or the destination. Building my own may be satisfying in the end but it could be frustrating getting there.
