Which printer?

johnridleyHm, having second thoughts about which 3D printer. The MakerBot Thing-O-Matic is tempting with the ability to clear its own build surface and start the next thing unattended, but the RepRap looks about the same to put together, full kits are < $900 ($400 cheaper than the ToM) and it does 8x8x8 instead of 4x4x4 inch max build sizes.
I'm going to have to go to Maker Faire in a few weeks and compare first hand.
EDIT: after having watched a few videos on reprap building I'm kind of leaning towards doing a ground-up repstrap from wood. It'd be fun. But I have to decide whether I'm more interested in the journey or the destination. Building my own may be satisfying in the end but it could be frustrating getting there.
