New bike day
Jan. 4th, 2023 06:55 amOn Tuesday Jan 3 I loaded my Z400 into the trailer, drove to Kalamazoo and traded it for a CFMoto 700CL/X
It's a Chinese brand that's been doing off-road in the US for 20 years, but only in 2022 have they started selling motorcycles in the US. This lead to a lot of time spent on the phone with AAA trying to get the coverage started for it. They didn't have CFMoto in their system so the agent (after a lot of talking to others in her department) had to wing it. I think she would have thought I was pulling her leg except she was able to google the bike and see it.
Anyway it's home and it's pretty. I only rode it around the parking lot, it was rainy yesterday. I just wanted to confirm that there was nothing wrong that I could detect.
This bike feels like a wheelie monster. Maybe I'll learn to do them :) Some reviewers have said it feels a lot like a Yamaha MT-07 which is definitely a wheelie monster.
The reason I went with it is that it was right in the thick of the battle among several other bikes, but I really wanted cruise control, and this is really the ONLY bike < $15000 or so with cruise control. What I read is that there's a "gentleman's agreement" among Japanese and EU manufacturers to not put cruise on bikes < $10K. The Chinese say "to hell with that cruise on a modern bike is basically just software and only costs like 30 bucks, and it'll get us sales."
The other outstanding thing is the price. Every reviewer can't believe how much bike it is for the money. Given how happy most reviewers are with it, I thought it worth taking a chance.
Anyway I may take it to the gym today. I haven't been in like 2 weeks because of the holidays and the cold and rainy weather.
