What did you think of it, John? I liked her book Once a Hero enough to buy a copy, but not the follow up, & never tried another of her books after that.
I'm most of the way through book 3 of Vatta's War right now. Each book is pretty short, and so far it's quite good, or at least, I like it. Family, honor, revenge, more or less in that order.
Good battle scenes, though more skirmishes than battles; it holds no David Weber chapters about armaments and tactics, but that's all for the better. I'm OK with her saying "Look, the main character very nearly graduated from the space force academy at the top of her class, she knows tactics, and here's her decision. Just assume she knows more than you do."
It's really sort of a whodunnit space opera. There's a huge conspiracy going on, she's caught in the middle of it as a victim, most of her family gets killed in attacks, she's under all kinds of suspicion, nobody wants to help her, and a couple of times per book, one of the bad guys gets his come-uppitance.
