OK, I have "Nero Vision" which actually is a pretty good (for my casual use anyway) DVD authoring program.

It came in a bundle along with Nero 7. I bought Nero 7 because I wanted the latest Nero Burning ROM and that seemed like the way to get it. I only discovered afterwards that it had DVD authoring in there too.

Anyway, I'm working on actually doing something with the 15+ years of video I've got in a shoebox. So yesterday I got home early and decided to sit down, open the tutorial, and learn to use this software.

This thing is practically undocumented. It works fine once you figure it out, but the documentation is so sketchy as to be practically unusable. I quit and restarted about a dozen times, finally figuring out what was going on, but until I did, the software really appeared to be doing random things to my video. I found a guide online whipped up by university people to help students use the software that was far better than what comes with the software. That's pretty pathetic, IMHO.

Anyway, last night I got all the clipping and chaptering done, and I left it authoring a preliminary DVD. I probably won't spend a lot more time on it, though I will probably put in some overlay text in a few places. In general it looks good.

So that's one berzerker video down, a shoebox full to go.

I'm still undecided on MiniDV. It's very nice having the video already in a digital format, if only the camcorder would hold together for it. I may have to just get a new camcorder.
