OK, so I got the rusted-out coolant line replaced, and took the old Taurus for a shakedown today.
The engine light came on and actually started blinking now. I picked up a scanner at Harbor Freight and popped it on when I got home. The same old "EGR flow insufficient" but now also "cylinder 2 misfire". I did talk to someone at work who said the latter can be caused by the former, if it's a bad sensor causing both.
Also, the battery is really, really dying. Either that or the alternator isn't working at all, but I'd expect that to show up on the dashboard. After driving 30 miles, I shut the engine off to get gas, and 3 minutes later it wouldn't start, had to jumpstart. Guess I'll put that jump pack in the car now until I figure out what's up with that.
Such a PITA for a vehicle I don't really use that much. But really it's probably just one or two things and I'll be good for a while. The battery is simple, and the other problems have been there for about 3 years, just getting worse, and are probably just a bad sensor.
