New computer
Aug. 2nd, 2006 07:16 pmI've been thinking about it for a while, it's kind of a pain using a laptop, particularly an old one that needs add-in cards to get it up to speed, as a main machine.
Anyway, this morning I went to newegg and priced out some stuff, then went to CompUSA's site and determined that I can just go buy a machine for cheaper than I can build one.
So I have a Compaq with an AMD Athlon 64 CPU.
The biggest problem is the couple of hours it took me to remove the shovelware from the machine before I could start installing my own stuff. I was pleased that it had several interesting looking games until I realized that all of them are 60 minute demos, $9.95 to buy. Delete.

Date: 2006-08-03 03:19 pm (UTC)Generally it's just junk; tons of cheap games, etc. But I'm including Microsoft Works, the "trial version" of Office 2003, all kinds of AOL offers, MSN offers, lots of links, really ugly backgrounds, stupid screensavers, 60 minute trials to $9.95 games (about 3 dozen), etc etc.
I really wish I could get a machine with an XP reinstall CD for a reasonable price, but that option barely exists anymore. I don't 100% trust a machine that's had so much software installed and then ripped back out again. All I can say is that Ghost is my friend.
