Perhaps the best e-reader on the market right now, the B&N Nook, is down to $149 for the wifi-only version. If I didn't already have a (Sony) reader, I'd be driving to B&N right now.

Oh, and Amazon apparently has an e-reader that they're trying to sell too though it's nowhere near the reader, it's locked to Amazon and doesn't have nearly the flexibility of other readers.

Except the nook has wifi, which I see as a negative.

It's WiFi, not 3G, so not so much; much more under the owner's control, and won't ever be a service charge. And I'm assuming it can be turned off.

I'll admit, part of the reason I bought the Sony is that it's completely unconnected except via USB when plugged in, but the alternative at the time was 3G. WiFi is a different horse.
