Magicshine taillight
Sep. 7th, 2010 09:00 pmToday I got a MagicShine taillight in the mail from GeoManGear.com to match my MagicShine headlight. It came with a Y power adapter so I can run it on the same power pack that the headlight runs on. This should simplify my daily chores. Rather than having to remove and charge the 4 AA cells in the Dinotte pack every 2 days, I just charge the one pack that lives in my bag every 4 or 5 days.
It did only come with O rings, which are fine but there was nowhere on my bike to mount it that did not result in it pointing towards the pavement, so I grabbed some plastic pipe, a heat gun and a pair of sheet metal bending pliers and fabricated a clone of the mount the Dinotte came with in about 5 minutes (after 45 minutes of poking at what I had lying around and deciding on a solution):

Review: as far as I can tell, brightness is identical to the Dinotte 140L. The Dinotte has a blink mode that I really like that the MagicShine does not, but given that the Dinotte was > $100 and the MagicShine was $29, I can live with it. I'm switching to the MagicShine as my standard light and selling the Dinotte.
Here's some video, Dinotte on top, MagicShine on the bottom:
