No Ishercon for me. I've had a sore throat since Sunday, it's not getting either better or worse. Since I don't know what it is, I'm going to stay away from the party.

I'm pretty bummed, because I've been invited for several years now and this was to be my first time to go. And I had a number of things that I was looking forward to talking to several people about.

Next year, I hope. Have fun without me!

Join the Skype crowd!
Mike and Tullio had a barely functioning setup last year that was still pretty fun. This year more capable equipment is planned.
I've been sorry to miss gong there in person these last couple of years, but seeing and talking with folks live made a big difference to me.

I've never done any sort of VOIP, Skype, or anything like it. My webcam is barely supported in Windows 7 on a few programs only. I don't know anything about Skype really, I'd have to learn enough about it, set up an account, software and hardware, by the time I got it done it'd probably be after midnight.

I think I'll just wait until Capricon. Doesn't seem to me like standing in the corner just watching, or talking to everyone, would be that much fun anyway. I would rather talk to people one-on-one.

Hey John,
1st-sorry you're not feeling well! 2nd--sorry to miss you--I was looking forward to talking to you. Although Amy brought me home this noon because I seem to have some sort of stomach bug, ugh.

Skype is easier than you think. Even I set it up without assistance. And you can call me anytime you want to talk one-on-one... it's the face-to-face that's tricky.

There seemed to be many good techie conversations during the party, kind of like you'd find in any GT suite. You'll have other opportunities, I'm sure.

I'm sure it wouldn't have been hard to set up, I just felt that if I couldn't be there in person, I'd rather just sit it out. And also I don't want to set up an account and a piece of software to use for 2 hours one time.

No, no, what I meant is if you set up Skype you could talk with me (or other friends) anytime... it needn't be a 2-hour one-time-only event.

Of course, it's probably not that thrilling to call and watch me knitting or sewing by hand or petting the cat... so it's not a big deal. ;-)

The group at the party did seem to have fun Skyping with Jeff Duntemann last night. I think Jeff eventually got all of his dogs onto his lap. I didn't pay attention to the conversation, but there was a lot of jockeying for position... just like in any GT suite.
