Finally got the generator back from the shop. Can't complain about the price, they fixed and tested it for $48 out the door. It was just the brushes. I knew the brushes needed replacing but I didn't feel like working on it in the middle of winter, and it seemed to me like the field regulator circuitry might have been bad too. Took 6 weeks but apparently they got the wrong parts the first time.
