I've been pretty happy with our house during this cold snap. It's really been totally comfortable all over the house, walking around in socks and sweats as I usually do in the winter.

However, yesterday morning I opened the dishwasher and saw that it hadn't drained; the bottom was full of dirty water.
Long story short; the drain hose had frozen.
The people who built the house didn't caulk at the floor/wall seam, at least not in the kitchen behind the cabinets, and there was a draft coming in there; with the -15 temps on Monday, apparently it was enough to freeze the hose. I've been pretty happy with the house in general, though this means the sealing could be better. We've always noticed a bit of a cold breeze coming from under the cabinets in the winter when it's windy.

I had a mostly-full tube of silicone sealant in the gun left over from a few weeks ago, so I shot that in there. The dishwasher nook immediately felt warmer. The machine was fine after just leaving it out of the nook for an hour or so, then pouring some hot water down the drain hose.

It's only held in place by two screws so the whole thing was easy enough, though I spent an hour on the web researching this model (it's a Bosch and I've never had to work on one before, and everything is totally enclosed on these to keep them quiet). I did take out one screw in order to determine that the drain pump was NOT jammed or clogged before pulling it out of the nook.
