johnridleyMy MP3 player lives again, courtesy of RockBox. RockBox gives a phenomenal amount of functionality, though it's definitely akin to installing Linux on your MP3 player. There's a ton of power there but the UI to get to some of it is obtuse, and even some basic functionality has been made more difficult.
I found an ebay seller who has #3 keychain video recorders in stock (in China). That's the good one. It's much nicer for helmet mounting, and looks ideal for putting on balloons, kites, etc. They're about $12 shipped so I got a couple of them.

Searching eBay for 808 #3 works. It seems like someone started making the GOOD one again, with the Sunplus chip. You can never know for sure if you got a good one until you have it in hand, but it seems like they're back in circulation. If it is the good one I may pick up a couple more. I'd like to have two for my helmet and a couple more to put on rockets or whatever. For what those cost you could just duct tape them to a water rocket, or just tape 'em onto an arrow and shoot it into the air.
