I'm tasked with getting a new porch light, with a motion detector, for church.

Went over today and Lowes had two models, neither of which I particularly liked, and both of which take candelabra bulbs. I'm not thrilled with installing a fixture which takes another type of bulb which must be stocked, so I passed on the purchase and just picked up a replacement part that I also needed.

Got back to work, did some searching, and found that ALL of the suitable fixtures I could find take candelabra base bulbs, so there's no avoiding it. I was thinking about buying LED bulbs to go in there, but they're still on the order of $15 each. So I ordered a light (which I like better than what Lowes had) and some incandescents. I'm betting that by the time we need to replace these bulbs it should be a year or three down the road, and LED replacements should be much cheaper. This light is not on a lot and those bulbs should last a while.

At least I paid $40 at Amazon instead of $63 at Lowes for the fixture. Same manufacturer, slightly different style, but I'm sure the same thing inside.

Of course, once I was ordering from Amazon, some stuff from my wish list inevitably jumped into the cart...

You should have just got a motion detector and kept the existing light. Or got a light you liked.

I had thought about that, but it's more work than I really wanted to put into it. I'd have had to install a new exterior electrical box to hold the detector, and done the wiring, which may have involved conduit since this is a commercial building.

The light I got from Amazon is aesthetically just fine. I just would have preferred not using candelabra base bulbs.
