Since you all are here, I think here is where I'll stay. As I commented earlier, if I wanted to just post stuff that nobody would read, I'd just use the WordPress install that I tossed up on my site. WordPress is an extraordinary piece of software; powerful, beautiful in execution, and absolutely trivial to install. But if nobody reads it, who cares?

I stay because I like the format, there are a lot of people I enjoy reading here, and because I have a Permanent account. I also hang out at FaceBook, but tend to post about different things there.

I like the format too, but there are several other sites that are pretty much identical, they all run on the LJ codebase. Dreamwidth is one, InsaneJournal, DeadJournal, and others.

They're so close that they have the same underlying API and data structures. I use a simple script to mirror my LJ posts to an InsaneJournal clone account.

As I said, I'm going to stay here because of the people here.

I just can't get that excited about Facebook. Too noisy. I find that I go there less and less frequently, and when I go there I get bored before I make it very far. I generally post one or two replies and then just wander off. It's probably because almost everything posted there is uninteresting trivia.

I assume you are aware you can post on DW and have it show up on LJ, which solves your writing problem and your being read problem. You'd still have to drop by here to read, but you could do all your posting on DW. Maybe the extra layer is inconvenient.

My problem is the opposite. I can post from work by using an app, but I can't read from there. And posting on DW gets me nothing since there's only a few people there to read anyway, and everyone there is also here.

Posting on DW and reading everyone here would accomplish draining $35 from my pocket every year, and I don't think anything else.

For a DW account. But even if free, DW would gain me nothing. Nobody reads there that doesn't read here, and nobody posts there that doesn't post here.
