The CRT monitor at work finally packed in this morning. It failed for the first time nearly a year ago, and turning it upside down and beating on it brought it back to life. Then about a month ago it flipped to just a furry gray picture, and I discovered that giving it a good whack brought it back. I've been beating on it with increasing frequency over the last month, at first once a week, yesterday about 20 times. This morning when I whacked it, the screen did some horrible things and it started to smoke.

So unfortunately at this point I'm down to either living with the 1280x1024 monitors they give everyone at work, or springing for my own. I don't really have a business case for a bigger monitor, but as I can get a nice 1920x1080 22" monitor for $150, I may just spring for it. I do spend 8 to 12 hours a day looking at the thing.

I just love being a member of GT... best repair procedure I've read in a long time.

I should mention that when I used to repair my TV this way, I'd often give up, open up the TV, and find a bad capacitor somewhere. Just sayin'.

Are you interested in a Compaq P110 (Model 630) 19?" wide monitor? I have one gathering dust. It worked fine last year. (Downside is it is about a 22" cube with the case.) Free if you want it--better than sending a functioning monitor to the landfill or even recycling.

Hm, what resolution will it do? 1600x1200? The monitor I just removed is also a 19" and 1600x1200

Yes, I'd quite like to get hold of that. I guess I'll have to get to SEMGS in June :) Or someone from our house will anyway.

And the only reason I am not still using it is because work replaced it with a LCD that does 1920x1200, and I am paying for my monitor's electricity.
