GoDaddy supports SOPA
The exodus is on. I moved all my stuff from GoDaddy to DreamHost a few months back during Bob Parson's elephant execution thing, but if I hadn't moved then I would certainly be moving now.

I abandoned over $100 in prepaid services to move. DreamHost is treating me well, and there are many others who will be happy to provide service as well.

News: Cheezburger network will be moving their 1000+ domains unless GoDaddy drops SOPA support. They probably won't, the CEO is known for never backing down no matter how wrong he is.

Enlighten me: what's the big deal? FWIW, I moved from GoDaddy to Dream Host 3 years ago, but mostly because I was absolutely sick of the sexist girlie pics there.

Anyway, let me know the scoop on this. Thanks!

They're backing SOPA. There are about 87 zillion articles on SOPA online. Basically it's legislation that if passed would mean that ISPs would be required to pull entire websites offline if there was a complaint of copyrighted material on there.

So if someone posts a copyrighted work (photo, music, video whatever) on LiveJournal and the copyright owner issues a complaint, LiveJournal would be taken offline until they could prove that they had fixed the problem.

It fundamentally breaks the internet. Hundreds of fairly major tech players have issued statements against it. Unfortunately it's supported by the people who own congress.
