AFA Alert

Setup: The AFA sends around these action alert emails every few days. I stay on the mailing list to see what these yahoos are up to. I have them automatically filtered to a folder labeled "The Hatebox" because most of what they send around is how to act against various kinds of people that they hate (they claim they don't hate them but it's pretty clear that if it's not hate, it's fear).

Quite a few of them lately have been about how everyone should boycott Ford because Ford supports the "homosexual agenda" or the "homosexual lifestyle." They make a huge deal about how Ford is contributing $10,000 at a time when the company is in the red and laying off workers. I'm sorry. Complaining about a $10,000 contribution from Ford is like some rich kid complaining that his mom put a quarter into the salvation army bucket in a year that they were only able to go to Bermuda twice.

It's also pretty clear from their previous letters that they have a definite "anyone not for us is against us" mentality; anyone who's actually treating homosexuals as human beings and giving them the same standing as others is "promoting the homosexual agenda" and is in the pocket of some evil gay overlord.

Just to be clear, I'm straight, but I don't like people persecuting a group because of what they are, and I'm really not liking the direction the country is taking towards a religiously-inspired, proud-to-be-ignorant government. I can't imagine an outcome in that direction that's good, and you doesn't even have to use your imagination to see really bad outcomes; they've happened many times in history.

Anyway, here's the latest. It doesn't actually call for action, I guess just saying that someone supports homosexuality is enough. It is for me; if it weren't for the fact that I'm pretty much over buying new cars (ever) and that I've only ever bought new Ford cars, I'd certainly give preference to them for this reason.

Ford Top Pro-Homosexual Sponsor on Television

Dear XXXXX,

Ford Motor Company is the top pro-homosexual sponsor on network television.  That is the result of a 12-week monitoring project by American Family Association.  Other companies listed in the top ten pro-homosexual sponsors include Toyota, AT&T, Procter & Gamble, Revlon, Glaxo Smith Kline, Unilever, Daimler Chrysler, Verizon, and Quaker Oats. To see the complete list of the Top Ten Pro-Homosexual Sponsors, click here.

Here is some information you should know about the monitoring process:

  • The programs selected for monitoring were those that Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), a homosexual organization, identified as being supportive of the homosexual lifestyle.

  • No one except the networks and sponsors had any foreknowledge of which companies would help sponsor a program. Neither the networks nor the sponsors provide that information to the public in advance.

  • To see all ads run by each advertiser and the programs they helped sponsor, click here.

Sincerely,

Donald E. Wildmon, Founder and Chairman

Gee, you'd think they'd get the hint that they're in the minority by the list of all the companies with "pro-homosexual" agendas. Of course, they're right, they don't have to be popular.
