Casino Royale by Ian Fleming

Perhaps I'm being overly critical of a novel that's just a product of its time, but wow, what a misogynistic ass of a character. The writing seems extremely stilted and the events just thrown out without support. It's the first novel in the series, perhaps it gets better. I'm not in a rush to find out though.

All the the Bond books follow a strict formula; you can count the pages and find the pages where he gets beat up, captured, or gets the "girl."

They're not worth the time for a modern audience. There's only the very faintest detectable hint of Fleming's wartime service, and that's only for WWII geeks.
