No leak. The oil actually wasn't down. I just am not used to looking at a dipstick within 10 miles of when I changed the oil, in the dark.
So, sludged-up pickup, or bad pump. Either way, several hundred bucks since the engine needs to be at least lifted up a few inches. The good news is, I can just drive it to the dealer since the pressure is OK when the oil is cold.
I guess if I knew it was a sludged up pickup, I'd try some detergent trick like running with a quart of tranny fluid for 30 miles or so then changing the oil, and repeat. I've never done that with this car and it's at 125K, so there probably is a bit of sludge built up.
Oh well, even if it's $500, I've never paid a dime on service for this car, so I'm still well ahead, and the car is certainly worth that and more. Also if they drop the pan they'll replace the gasket, and that should fix the oil drips that I've been having for the last 60K.
