Since they got a new junk food vendor at work that raised the prices quite a bit, when I'm feeling peckish for chocolate, instead of buying a candy bar, I go for the free hot chocolate mix pouches.

I just mixed one up, got back to my desk, and took a sip. Eee-uch. Kinda nasty. Not really horrible but not what I'd drink by choice. Hmm, I wonder...

Yup, I went back to the break room and checked the empty envelope on top; someone put a sugar-free hot chocolate envelope in the back of the box next to it which has the real stuff (OK, the real fake stuff). I checked for the good of humanity, there were no more of the vile things in the wrong box.

I shall surely double-check in the future.

I once had a craving for cocoa and the room we were having our meeting in only had the sugar free stuff. Fool that I was I mixed it up. Yeeargh! "not really horrible"? Well, I suppose I would rather drink that than eat bell peppers stuffed with eggplant and okra, but still!

The new meds I'm taking have totally killed my affection for fake sugar. Black coffee now tastes better than ever. Diet coke is right out, and so is anything flavored with aspartame. Regular coke is okay, especially the Mexican stuff (still made with sugar, not corn syrup). Hot cocoa -- some brands are better than others, definitely. I hate the swiss miss that we bought on sale last month. It's insipid. But at least it's not sugar-free. So yeah, it's worth double-checking...

12-16oz coffee mug
2 packages of sugared hot chocolate
2 round peppermint candies (crush in the wrapper)
Mix and stir well. Then go back and stir some more.

Wait for the sugar rush. Yum!
